Artist Statement:
In 50 years of making visual art the greatest lesson I’ve learned is that you can’t correct the first mistake until you’ve made it. This realization is immensely liberating and is an antidote for any type of creative block.
As my work has evolved I’ve arrived at a place where the process is akin to that of a jazz musician. An idea or structure presents itself and from this germ the piece breathes, grows, and hopefully settles into an equilibrium that allows me to release it and move on. This process often occurs over a period of years.
